Christa Risher is an innovative American watercolor artist, photographer and graphic designer known for her textural landscapes and usage of color. As a graphic designer she spends a lot of time following the rules so she lets herself go when she paints. She does not plan her paintings but instead lets go of restrictions, feels the colors she needs to spend time with and enjoys the process. The results are spontaneous, unexpected, expressive abstract works. She graduated with a BFA from the Ball State University School of Art majoring in Graphic Design. She is the 2019 recipient of the Heartland Artists Gallery People's Choice Award. Christa serves on the Board of Directors of the Heartland Artists Gallery, Plymouth, IN. She is involved with several events sponsored by the gallery. She currently displays her watercolors at Heartland Artists Gallery. She also has pieces on display at Paul's Donuts & Coffee in Westfield, IN. Christa's work bridges abstract expressionism and traditional representational landscape, exposing hidden gems and sharpened textures in the space between the two schools of art.
"I think that a lot of people are moving so fast that they are trained to just see land masses as they drive down the road or walk along trails, missing the correlations where fields meet forest and water meets rock; it is those interactions that have always interested me the most as a photographer and as a watercolor artist." |
